Leveling The Back Yard

As we continue the DIY construction of the home-base drive around for our Airstream, our current project is leveling the back yard so that a shelter can be installed.
There is a gradual slope in the drive that will have to be leveled
The moving of earth will be done with pick, hoe, and shovels
Laid an initial line of pavers which I later had to reposition
Two dump truck loads - coarse gravel on left, finer gravel on right in photo above
Decided we need to dig a french drain to run under the shelter platform

 Drainage ditch

 Perforated pipe
 Gravel covering drainage pipe

Lots of digging in the highest area

Lots of wheel barrow loads of dirt and gravel on this lowest corner

 Making progress

Almost ready for the shelter

El Malpais National Monument - Joe Skeen Campground

Great dry camping site in western New Mexico. After World War II, the Bureau of Land Management became the administrator of the area. In 1987, President Ronald Reagan designated El Maloais a unit of the National Park Service. It is jointly managed with the nearby El Morro National Monument.

Wichita Falls - Texas

We enjoyed a brief stay at the city campground in Wichita Falls, Texas. Site #20. Electrical hookups, water, and a dump station are available for a reasonable price. We walked to Jason's Deli for dinner. The river that runs next to the park was extremely high. Check out THIS LINK FOR VIDEO Sentimental note; we pedaled through Wichita Falls back in 1985 on our cross country bicycle trip to San Diego, CA, from Tybee Island, GA. Pretty much had the park to ourselves

Wash Day

Washing the Airstream before we head out. Won't have the opportunity again for a while. Planning to make it to Tennessee on Monday. Not making reservations, but I have some locations in mind. We are planning to do a lot of dry camping (no hookups) along the way. We prefer State and National Parks and Forests, and public Bureau of Land Management (BLM) campgrounds over private RV parks. I will try to share what we learn along the way. I will also include links to my Amazon Affiliate Shop, to some of the gear we use. Click the "Products I Use" link on my website, and scroll to the bottom of the page if interested.
