Whale Sighting... Sort Of

We started the day with breakfast at Tillamook Creamery in Tillamook, Oregon. After breakfast we hiked 5 miles round trip at Cape Lookout, OR. Afterward, we drove to Pacific City and had lunch at The Oar House. Driving back we made a quick impromptu stop at McPhillips Beach. While walking on the beach we met a lady who informed us of whales spouting on the horizon. We saw spouting and even saw a tail surfacing in distance. I was able to capture a spouting in the photo shown below. The 2nd photo is actually the same photo enlarged. Ended our day by going back to Tillamook Creamery for ice cream.

The spout is difficult to see in the top photo. In the enlarged photo below, the spout can be seen in the center.

El Malpais National Monument - Joe Skeen Campground

Great dry camping site in western New Mexico. After World War II, the Bureau of Land Management became the administrator of the area. In 1987, President Ronald Reagan designated El Maloais a unit of the National Park Service. It is jointly managed with the nearby El Morro National Monument.

Wichita Falls - Texas

We enjoyed a brief stay at the city campground in Wichita Falls, Texas. Site #20. Electrical hookups, water, and a dump station are available for a reasonable price. We walked to Jason's Deli for dinner. The river that runs next to the park was extremely high. Check out THIS LINK FOR VIDEO Sentimental note; we pedaled through Wichita Falls back in 1985 on our cross country bicycle trip to San Diego, CA, from Tybee Island, GA. Pretty much had the park to ourselves

Wash Day

Washing the Airstream before we head out. Won't have the opportunity again for a while. Planning to make it to Tennessee on Monday. Not making reservations, but I have some locations in mind. We are planning to do a lot of dry camping (no hookups) along the way. We prefer State and National Parks and Forests, and public Bureau of Land Management (BLM) campgrounds over private RV parks. I will try to share what we learn along the way. I will also include links to my Amazon Affiliate Shop, to some of the gear we use. Click the "Products I Use" link on my website, and scroll to the bottom of the page if interested.
