Yellowstone National Park - Day 2

We got up before dawn and drove into YNP and across the northern loop on out into Lamar Valley where we were 1st in line for a buffalo jam (VIDEO LINK). The video is from my dash camera through the windshield so it's poor quality, and the buffalo do not make their appearance until after about one minute. Here (VIDEO LINK) is a short video I took of the same buffalo crossing using my cell phone. Later, using the scope lens, we spotted a mother wolf with 2 pups. Unfortunately, the wolves were so far away we could not get them in a photo. We continued driving the northern loop stopping for various points of interest, Petrified Tree, Roaring Mountain, Sheepeater Cliff, among others. Lastly, dinner again at Yellowstone Pizza Co. in Gardiner, MT.

El Malpais National Monument - Joe Skeen Campground

Great dry camping site in western New Mexico. After World War II, the Bureau of Land Management became the administrator of the area. In 1987, President Ronald Reagan designated El Maloais a unit of the National Park Service. It is jointly managed with the nearby El Morro National Monument.

Wichita Falls - Texas

We enjoyed a brief stay at the city campground in Wichita Falls, Texas. Site #20. Electrical hookups, water, and a dump station are available for a reasonable price. We walked to Jason's Deli for dinner. The river that runs next to the park was extremely high. Check out THIS LINK FOR VIDEO Sentimental note; we pedaled through Wichita Falls back in 1985 on our cross country bicycle trip to San Diego, CA, from Tybee Island, GA. Pretty much had the park to ourselves

I Am Thankful

I am thankful for so many things in my life. Four years ago when I was still principal, I wrote the following column for the PTSA newsletter and titled it, "I Am Thankful." Thought I'd share it again... Principal’s Letter - November 2007 As I sit here contemplating the topic for this month’s edition of the Dodgen Dateline the first thing that comes to mind is to take inventory of the things for which I am thankful.  It is, after all, that time of year.  First, I am thankful that my list includes items such as a wonderful family, adequate food and shelter, and employment at the best middle school in the United States.  Of course I could go on for many more pages.  I am blessed indeed.  How about instead, I share some things from my list that I am sure you would not have guessed?  The baseball that has scrawled on it the words “I love you very much,” comes to mind.  The words were writ...
